  • Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. Yesterday Hydesville Elementary School celebrated Computer Science Education Week by participating in the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming.

    What is Code?

Code is a list of instructions written to control a machine. Code is written in a computer language and allows humans to communicate with computers. Coding or Programming is the act of writing Code.

    Why learn how to Code?

Coding or Programming is a basic literacy in the 21st Century. Learning how to code will grant you the ability to create, instead of just using many of your favorite phone/tablet apps (Instagram/Angry Birds/Subway Surfers), computer games (Minecraft) or websites (Google/Facebook/Twitter). Learning to code improves problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and having digital skills will improve your chances of being employed in the future. Computer science-related jobs will be among the fastest growing and highest paying over the next decade. Even when our country was in a recession, computer science jobs remained strong despite these economically challenging times. There is also a wide range of career opportunities since all industry sectors today involve computing.
